In her welcoming address, the Assistant Solicitor General, Yang Mulia Dyg Hajah Nor Hashimah binti Hj Md Taib acknowledged Brunei Darussalam's recent membership to the WIPO Copyright Treaty and WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty in 2017.  Also commonly known as the Internet Treaties.  She further noted that the increase in the use of social media by the public such as entrepreneurs, aspiring artists, agencies, journalists, has given rise to the need to extend the promotion and protection of the copyright and related rights in this digital era.  This new development in the dissemination of works via the Internet or any other form of digital media raises new questions concerning copyright and related rights.  In particular issues related to the enforcement of those rights.  With that in mind it is hoped that the Seminar would be able to give further insight into the issues and challenges but also opportunities available.

The Seminar concluded with a roundtable discussion on the practical experience of digital copyright and related rights by copyright owners in Brunei Darussalam.
